Transactions

Is Kindrling a free service? Signing up, posting a listing and browsing through our listings is completely free. Illustrators who sell their services through Kindrling, however, are charged a 7% service fee. of the purchase amount. 

How can I pay on Kindrling? Kindrling offers Stripe and PayPal as payment providers. Our illustrators enable one or both of these. This means that buyers (authors) can pay either with credit card or with a PayPal account. 

Is paying on Kinderling safe? Security is critical for online monetary transactions. The Payment Card Industry (PCI)—the organizations that handle branded credit cards from the major card providers, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB—provides a security standard that is often used as a reference.  
Kinderling does not store or process any credit card information. All credit card information is handled by Stripe or PayPal, the payment gateways. Because of this, PCI-compliance is not directly applicable to Kindrling. Stripe and PayPal are fully PCI-compliant and trusted payment processors.

How does the payment process look like on Kindrling? The illustrator posts a listing and defines a price for the product or service. The buyer (author) opens the listing page, selects options (quantity for example) and clicks on the "Request" button. On the following page, the buyer reviews the details of the purchase and clicks "Checkout with PayPal/Credit Card". They are either taken to PayPal to complete the payment or must fill out their credit card details. If they don't complete the payment within 1 hour, the transaction attempt is closed.

Once the payment is done, the buyer is taken to a page that displays the transaction details. They are told that the seller (illustrator) needs to accept the transaction before the money is transferred.

The seller gets an email notification of a new transaction that needs to be accepted. If the transaction is not accepted within 3 days or before the end date (whatever comes first), the transaction is canceled and no money is transferred. Once accepted, the money (minus PayPal's / Stripe’s payment processing fees and the 7% Kindrling service fee) is transferred to the seller's PayPal / bank account account. Both parties get a receipt of the transaction via email.

Both users can then discuss freely to agree on details. When the order is completed, they can mark the order as completed. Users can then review each other.

Which payment providers does Kindrling offer? Kindrling offers Stripe and PayPal as payment providers.

How does the STRIPE transaction flow look like? The seller posts a listing and defines a price for the product or service. The buyer opens the listing page, and clicks on the "Buy" button. On the following page, the buyer reviews the details of the purchase and inputs their credit card details. The payment happens immediately.

Once the payment is done, the buyer is taken to a page that displays the transaction details. They are told that the seller needs to accept the transaction before the money is transferred. The seller gets an email notification of a new transaction that needs to be accepted. If the transaction is not accepted within 3 days or before the end date (whichever comes first), the transaction is canceled and no money is transferred. Once accepted, the money is captured from the buyer card and funds are put on hold. Both parties get a receipt of the transaction via email.

Kindrling’s service fee is scheduled to be payed to the administrator bank account configured in Stripe. That payout will happen according to Stripe's schedule (about 5 to 14 business days). Both users can then discuss freely to agree on details. The buyer marks the order as completed. Money is then moved from the Stripe balance to the seller account.

Stripe transfers the money from the Stripe balance to the seller bank account. Stripe takes about 7 - 14 days days to move the money. Users can then review each other.

Can I require a deposit? Kindrling users, i.e. buyers and sellers, are encouraged to agree on partial/incremental (deposit) payments. Illustrators have full control over their pricing settings on their admin panel. Illustrators do NOT need to create an entirely new listing  when initiating deposits. They can simply adjust the pricing on their listing to reflect the incremental payment both parties have agreed on. Example: The listing price is 250 USD, but the parties agreed on 100 USD (40% of the Total), so the illustrator will adjust the listing price to that (incremental) amount for their listing. After that, the payment process can be initiated (secured by PayPal and/or Stripe).

How do illustrators (“Kindrling sellers”) add their payment details when using STRIPE?

To add their bank details, providers should do the following:

  • log in their account in your marketplace
  • from the top bar, go to their user settings
  • go to the Payments tab (this tab is visible only if admins have configured Stripe correctly from the Admin panel)
  • possibly select Bank account (in case PayPal is enabled too)
  • fill the form to add their bank details: their legal name, their country, their address and their bank account number (the format varies based on their country)
  • save their bank details

That's it! A success message should now be visible and providers can now sell in your marketplace and receive money when a transaction happens.

How do illustrators (“Kindrling sellers”) add their payment details when using PayPal?

  • Go to your user profile settings.
  • In Payments, you’ll find your “Payout preferences” and a link to connect your PayPal account. This link will direct you to PayPal.
  • Log in to your PayPal account or create a new one.
  • Grant the marketplace the required permissions. After this, you will automatically be taken back to the marketplace to complete your setup. You can read more about these permissions here.

Can a transaction be disputed? Buyers can mark a paid transaction as disputed after the transaction request has been approved and before it is marked as “completed”. The Dispute feature is a way for buyers to clearly communicate to providers that they are not happy with the way the transaction is handled. To resolve a dispute, involvement from admins is required.

Authors

Why should I use Kindrling? Kindrling is one-stop source for finding artists that fit your needs. Our platform simplifies the process of searching for children’s illustrators and allows you to look for illustrators in a structured way. As an author you will get the chance to see the portfolio services of illustrators along pricing information which makes it easy to look for the right illustrator. We make sure that illustrators who joined Kindrling are handpicked professionals. Illustrators will not hav to redirect you as a client to a separate payment system or invoicing process, which streamlines the whole transaction process both for you and the illustrator. 

How do I communicate with an artist through Kindrling? You can communicate through Kindrling’s chat feature. Simply go to the artist’s profile and click on “Contact”.

May I offer illustrators direct payments outside of the Kindrling platform? You may not offer direct payments to illustrators using payment systems (cash, other online payment methods) outside of the Kindrling platform.

Can I ask artists for more info? Yes, definitely. Please use the chat feature to discuss your book project details (timeline, style, rates etc.). Currently, it is not possible to attach files when communicating via Kindrling. For file exchanges (e.g. contract agreements etc.) you may use e-mail communication. All other communication (especially regarding payments details etc.) shall not take place outside of the Kindrling system.

How do I request an illustration service by Kindrling artists? Requesting an illustration service is easy on Kindrling and you can do so by creating a user account if you have not done so already. Once you do, you can browse through our collection of artist profiles and then click “Request” on a listing page you like. On the next page, you will be able to enter a message to the artist regarding any specific details, requirements, or needs regarding the booking request.

Which illustration services can be booked via Kindrling? As a Kindrling author you can book BOOK COVERS, FULL PAGE ILLUSRATIONS and/or ILLUSTRATION PACKAGES. You can also ask for Custom Orders that reflect your specific requirements.

Can I ask for Custom Orders? Sure! Custom Orders allow illustrators to offer their services to you as an author in a customized manner. Custom Orders are not a STANDARD full page illustration, book cover or illustration package but rather a customized agreement between you and the illustrator. 

Can I ask for samples (custom order)? Sure, you can ask illustrators to provide a sample illustration. This must be done through the Kindrling system and through initiating a Custom Order. Illustrators will need to create a new listing for a Custom Order.

How can I be safe and cautious on Kindrling? While we do everything that we can to build the most trusted community for children’s illustration services to book, we rely on our community of users to help us by being proactive and always reporting any suspicious activity on our platform.

How do I leave a review on Kindrling after a payment? After a transaction is completed, both buyer and seller can review each other. A review consists of: A positive or negative rating (thumbs up or down) AND a free-form text comment. Reviews are visible to everyone on each user's profile page. An illustrator’s rating (percentage of positive ratings and number of ratings) is also shown on each listing page. Within the Reviews section of your Admin panel, you can edit the feedback given by your users. You can decide to delete reviews and allow users to leave another one or block them to prevent them from leaving another one

What is an “Author Request”? “Author Requests” are a way to describe your book project on Kindrling. Illustrators may “apply” to your author requests and will ask you to book their services through our platform. You can create an “Author Request” by clicking on the “Post a listing” button. On the following page you will be asked to fill out the details regarding your author request.

Illustrators

Why should I list my illustration work on Kindrling? If you are an artist, it’s very simple in that we are a platform for you to share your illustration work with the top authors, increase your bookings and revenue, and take your business beyond the reach of what was previously possible. We take the time and financial burden out of having to keep up with social media marketing, requests that are not vetted and become a hassle, and easily manage your bookings. You have the ability to customise your own design packages, with prices displayed upfront. Customer enquiries are much more serious and credible, since the question of cost is already known. Being paid by Kindrling into your own account, without having to redirect a client to a separate payment system, will streamlined the whole process for you

How do I add a listing? Adding a listing on Kindrling is easy and only takes a few minutes. Once you’ve created a Kindrling account, please go ahead and add profile details (we recommend you to be thorough). Afterwards, simply click the “Post a listing” at the top right. Please note that all listings are subject to review by our team to ensure the safety of our community and quality of your work. Once you submit your listing for review, we will approve it. Can I add a listing without adding payment details? No, you cannot use Kindrling unless you add your payment details. Kindrling offers both Stripe (adding your bank account details) and PayPal options. 

How much is it to add my illustration listing? Signing up and posting a listing on Kindrling is compeletely free. One of Kindrling main benefits is that we streamline the payment process. With Kindrling illustrators do not have to redirect a client to a separate payment system or invoicing process. All payments are secured and the payments are PCI-compliant. Our payment partners, PayPal and Stripe, are two of the most trusted platforms out there. Our platform currently charges 7% of the transaction fee which is automatically deducted from the illustrator when a transaction is completed.

How can I be more successful on Kindrling? Our platform will help you to be more successful in the children's illustrator market. While we are doing our very best to market your services, you can increase your chances by posting your Kindrling listing pages on Facebook groups. This proves to be a very effective method to increase traffic to your Kindrling listing.

Which services can I list? As a Kindrling illustrator you can offer BOOK COVERS, FULL PAGE ILLUSRATIONS and/or ILLUSTRATION PACKAGES. Together with your client you can also agree on CUSTOM ORDERS.

How can I create a Custom Order? Creating a Custom Order on Kindrling is super easy! It works just like posting a normal listing. Simply click the “Post a listing” at the top right. Add the details in the "Price" field and select "Per CUSTOM ORDER" (e.g. samples, custom package etc.) The Custom Order feature is also used for SAMPLES. Please note: Custom Orders are not a STANDARD full page illustration, book cover or illustration package but rather a customized agreement between you and the illustrator. Thus, make sure to delete or close the Custom Order listing after the transaction has been completed. 

How can I ask for deposits on Kindrling? Asking for deposit payments oftentimes makes a lot of sense. As a Kindrling user you can agree on partial/incremental (deposit) payments with authors. You do not have to create a new listing to do that. As an illustrator you have full control over your pricing settings on your admin panel. Simply adjust the pricing on your current listing to reflect the incremental payment you and the author have agreed on. Example: The listing price is 250 USD, but the parties agreed on 100 USD (40% of the Total), so the illustrator will adjust the listing price to that (incremental) amount for their listing. After that, the payment process can be initiated (secured by PayPal and/or Stripe).

How do I price my listings on Kindrling? We have set a minimum transaction size of 120 USD. However, in general we put pricing in the hands of artists. You can price your services at your discretion and please take local rates, taxes, Kinrdling fees, and other fees into consideration when posting your listing.

My client has paid on Kindrling, however I haven’t received the money on my bank account yet. What happened? That’s because you have probably enabled STRIPE as your payment gateway. Kindrling’s service fee is scheduled to be payed to the administrator bank account configured in Stripe. That payout will happen according to Stripe's. Stripe transfers the money from the Stripe balance to the seller bank account. Stripe takes about 7 - 14 business days days to move the money. 

Can I offer authors to send a sample? You can ask illustrators to provide a sample illustration. This must be done through the Kindrling system.
To offer a sample of your illustration work you will need to create a new listing (through the “Post a listing” button) and simply name it “SAMPLE”. Please price your sample listing accordingly and close the listing after you have provided the illustration service.

What should I put in my listing? Your listing description should be an accurate description of your offered illustration service, details about your illustration process and style, timelines, revision processes, communication preferences and what authors can expect when working with you. Our community loves discovering new offerings and the more detailed you can be, the more booking requests you will receive. If you have particular policies, rules, expectations please also include this in your listing.

Do I have to communicate on Kindrling? You can communicate through Kindrling’s chat feature. You may not offer direct payments to illustrators using payment systems (cash, other online payment methods) outside of the Kindrling platform.

Why was my listing rejected? We sometimes reject listing that are not aligned with our quality standards or lack an accurate service description. We may ask you to review your listing and add more info to it.

Why is my listing pending? Since our community is rapidly expanding, we receive a lot of listings every day. This means that our team has to review various illustrator service offerings - this can take some time. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible but cannot guarantee that your listing will be approved within 24 hours.
